Quebec

With its rich and diverse territory, Quebec is an area at risk of experiencing a disaster. We must therefore be prepared for a whole range of disasters.

In Quebec, the Civil Protection Act allocates responsibility for emergency readiness fairly and equally among citizens, businesses, municipalities and the Government of Quebec. Every citizen must be able to look after him or herself in the first few hours after a disaster. This is why everyone must be prepared. Local authorities are the first to respond during an emergency. They are supported by the Organisation de la sécurité civile du Québec, who is responsible for managing disasters under the National Civil Protection Plan. 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, the Centre des opérations gouvernementales closely monitors any situation that is likely to impact the lives of citizens in order to respond quickly.
